The Trainer

Our trainer for this course Mark is an expert in data analysis and especially in the use of R. He has a background as a researcher in ecology and his interest in data analysis started with his own need to analyse own experimental data some years ago for his PhD. He has been using R professionally for 17 years since discovering it in 2002.

He has extensive teaching experience including teaching an MSc course in Biological Recording, where he taught both ecology and statistics, for the University of Birmingham. He currently supervises MSc students in environmental science for Birkbeck University.

He has written 3 books on R: ” The Essential R Reference”, “Beginning R: The Statistical Language” and “Statistics For Ecologists Using Excel And R”.

Our online training is designed to re-create the classroom experience as closely as possible. It is a live training session using Zoom or Teams and the trainer is there throughout. The training is still hands-on so you do need to have the software installed on your own computer. The trainer shares their screen to demonstrate techniques and there is also the option of being able to share your screen if you are really stuck! Depending on the class size, which we still keep to a maximum of 8, questions can be asked at any time or at set points throughout the day.

The trainers like to see you! They much prefer it if you have a camera on so they can see you as well as you them.

We provide everything that you will need for a fun, productive day of training.

Everyone has their own computer to work on in a comfortable, bright, air-conditioned room.

We provide plenty of tea, coffee & biscuits.

We provide 6 months of post-course support as well.

If you get stuck on anything relating to the course simply get in touch and explain the issue.

We will make sure your trainer contacts you as soon as possible to help you out.

We don’t want to be the biggest training company but we are trying to be the best.

We have now won the Feefo Gold Award for customer service for 6 years in a row.

We always limit our classes to a maximum of 8 delegates but try to keep them smaller. During 2018 our average class size was 4 people.

To back up our promise of great training we offer a 100% money back guarantee.

Our focus is on you being a faster, more capable R user when you return to work.

Our courses combine traditional teaching to explain new concepts and tools with hands-on exercises.

The exercises ensure that you get plenty of time to try out what you have just been taught and make sure that you really understand it.

We also make sure that there is plenty of time for you to ask questions in case there is anything you are unsure of.

Please come dressed in whatever you are most comfortable wearing. Most of our delegates wear casual clothing to our courses.

Yes we do.

All attendees on our courses receive a certificate of attendance. This ensures that you can prove to people that you have attended a professionally run course on R and so that they can be confident of your abilities to use the software.

We always use the most up to date version of the software for our courses unless we are asked to do otherwise.

If this is an issue for you please contact us as we can often amend the version of R you will be trained on.

Yes we offer post-course support.

If you get stuck on anything in your course in the 6 months after your course let us know. Let us know clearly what the issue is and we’ll make sure your trainer contacts you as quickly as possible to explain things and get you up and running again.

Our focus is on making you a more confident and capable R user.

To do this you need to practise using the tools and techniques that we will teach you which is why we are big believers in hands-on learning.

Our courses include a number of exercises for you to work through independently during the course. This gives you time to practise.

It also gives plenty of time for questions as our tutors are on-hand throughout. If you get stuck, or are unsure about anything, they are there to explain things for you.
